the Wikimedia community asked for [add link to wish] — a way to issue multiple blocks against an account to more effectively manage disruptive behavior. the existing block tool only allowed one block at a time.
the challenge of the Multiblock project was knowing where to integrate the step of issuing multiple blocks, which existing features would be affected by the new feature, and what new UI the feature would require in other parts of the platform.
design challenge 1
according to the user research i did, an admin would need to know all active and past blocks on an account before issuing a block against it. the first design challenge was, how do we want to display the active blocks? do we allow admins to view all active blocks from the block page or do we navigate them away from the block page to a page that already existed called block list, which lists all existing blocks on all accounts?
